Inside the Sump: Workshop Case Notes & Why Photographic Proof Matters on Every Job
Anyone can claim they cleaned your oil pickup strainer.
Why We Photograph Every Belt, Tensioner and Oil Pickup Strainer
When a wet timing belt degrades inside hot crankcase oil, the most dangerous damage happens out of sight at the bottom of the engine. Long before the belt snaps, delaminated rubber fibres and fabric backing peel off the belt teeth and are sucked against the fine wire mesh of the oil pickup strainer inside the sump.
Once you bolt the timing cover and oil sump back onto an engine, there is no way for a customer to see from the outside whether the sump was actually removed or whether the garage took a shortcut and only swapped the top belt. That is why our technicians — who bring over 50 years of combined experience — document three mandatory stages on every patient:

Case Study & Photo Proof FAQs
Do you really take photos on every single wet belt job?
Yes, every one. Whether your car comes in from Little Wymondley or is recovered from 30 miles away, our technicians photograph the old belt and the inside of the sump and pickup strainer as part of our standard 5-step process.
How often do “healthy-sounding” Green-triage cars already have debris in the strainer?
Very often. Most owners booked in at 6 years or 70,000 miles have no warning lights at all, yet when we drop the sump we regularly find the first layer of rubber fibres already clinging to the oil pickup mesh. Catching it at that stage prevents turbo and bearing starvation.
Can trade customers get the photos to pass on to their retail buyers?
Yes. Independent garages and used car dealers who use our trade service love the photo pack because it gives their retail customer cast-iron proof that the wet belt and sump strainer have been done properly prior to sale.
