Meet the Wet Belt Doctor — The Technician, the Workshop and the Way We Work
Every brand needs a story, but ours started with an engine on a bench and a clogged oil strainer in a tray.
Workshop Location & 30-Mile Recovery Radar — 30-Mile Catchment Ring (64 Towns)
Our specialist wet belt & timing chain surgical workshop at 1A Stevenage Road, Little Wymondley, Hitchin, SG4 7HT sits right on the A602 between Hitchin and Stevenage, 2 minutes off A1(M) Junction 8—with low-loader recovery across a 30-mile radius.
Trust line: Over 50 years of combined technician experience, a 12-month parts & labour warranty and photo proof on every job — that’s the standard behind the WetBeltDoctor+ name.
Who Is the Doctor?
Wet Belt Doctor — WetBeltDoctor+ on our signage — is run from our specialist workshop at Little Wymondley, associated with Bracey’s Motors. The Doctor character represents our technician team, who between them bring over 50 years of combined experience to every engine that comes through the door.
If you’d like to talk something through before booking, you can reach Andrew directly at info@wetbeltdoctor.co.uk or call the workshop on 07787 707 084.
The “Doctor” is more than a character on our signage. It describes how we approach every vehicle: listen to the symptoms, examine before prescribing, treat the cause rather than just the complaint, and explain everything in plain English. You’ll hear us talk about triage, consultations and theatre time. That’s partly fun — and partly a genuine reminder that engines with timing drive problems deserve the same methodical care as any patient.
Why We Specialise
Wet belts arrived in volume on some of Britain’s best-selling cars and vans: Ford’s 1.0 EcoBoost, the 2.0 EcoBlue in the Transit family, Stellantis’s 1.2 PureTech across Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Vauxhall, and Honda’s 1.0 VTEC Turbo. Timing chains, meanwhile, earned a reputation for stretch on several BMW, Mini, JLR and Vauxhall engines. Many owners of these vehicles have found that general servicing garages either turn the work away or approach it as a routine belt swap.
We decided to do the opposite: make these engines our entire focus. Specialising means our technicians repeat the same procedures on the same engines, know where the awkward fasteners hide, keep the correct tools on the board, and recognise early warning signs others might miss.
Inside the Workshop at Little Wymondley
Our premises at 1A Stevenage Road, Little Wymondley, Hitchin, SG4 7HT are on the A602 between Hitchin and Stevenage, within two minutes of A1(M) Junction 8. Here’s what’s inside, and why it matters.
Two-post lifts. Sump removal and underside access are only practical with the vehicle raised at a comfortable working height, wheels free.
Engine support equipment. Many timing jobs require an engine mount to be removed, so the engine must be held securely from above or below.
Manufacturer-specific locking tools. Each engine family needs its own camshaft, crankshaft and flywheel locks. On engines where the crank sprocket isn’t keyed, these tools are the only thing that holds timing exact while the crank bolt is torqued.
Torque multipliers and angle gauges. Crank pulley bolts on several of the engines we treat must be tightened to high torque followed by a precise angle — a job for proper equipment, not guesswork.
Diagnostic equipment. Multi-brand scan tools that read live camshaft deviation and oil pressure data, plus mechanical oil pressure gauges and a borescope.
A clean, dry assembly area. Liquid gasket only seals reliably on degreased, dry flanges. A dusty driveway is the last place you want to reseal a sump.
Every one of these tools serves the same purpose: getting the job right first time, then proving it with photographs.
The Doctor’s Oath — Our Working Principles
Why We Don’t Do Mobile Repairs
It would be easier commercially to send a van to people’s homes. We’ve chosen not to, because the work that protects your engine — dropping the sump, clearing the strainer, locking the timing, sealing in clean conditions — needs a workshop. Instead, we’ve invested in a recovery and collection service covering around 30 miles, so owners whose vehicles shouldn’t be driven can still reach us safely. Details are on our Vehicle Recovery & Collection page (/vehicle-recovery-collection/).
Warranty and Parts Policy
- Every replacement we carry out comes with a 12-month parts & labour warranty, built on OE-spec belt kits, tensioners and seals.
- We decline customer-supplied parts, because the warranty covers our parts and our labour together — and belt kits are exactly where cheap ones cost the most.
- Our fixed price is agreed after a VIN check and doesn’t move unless we find something and phone you first.
Photo Proof Instead of Promises
We’d rather show you than tell you. On every job, we hand back photographs of the old belt, the cover-off inspection and the condition of the sump and pickup strainer, so you can see exactly what your money fixed.
Case Notes
Selected jobs, with before-and-after photographs, are gathered on our Case Studies page (/case-studies/).

Questions About the Doctor & the Workshop
Is the Wet Belt Doctor a real person?
Yes. The character on our branding stands for our technician team, whose combined experience runs to more than 50 years.
Are you a franchise or part of a chain?
No. We operate from one specialist workshop in Little Wymondley, associated with Bracey’s Motors, serving drivers across a 30-mile radius.
Do you only work on Ford, Stellantis and BMW engines?
They make up most of our work because they’re the most common wet belt and chain-driven engines on UK roads, but we can advise on other belt-in-oil and chain designs. Call with your registration and we’ll confirm.
How do I get a price from you?
Send your registration, mileage and situation through the quote form or ring 07787 707 084. We usually reply with a VIN-checked fixed price the same working day, with no deposit and no obligation.
What makes you different from my local garage?
Focus. We work on timing drives every day, hold the specific tools for each engine and follow a sump-off procedure as standard on every wet belt replacement.
Can I bring my own parts?
Ideally not. Our 12-month warranty covers OE-spec parts and labour as one package, so we supply the kit ourselves.
